BRUSSELS AND THE EU
Since the end of World War 2, Brussels has become an important city with many influential international organistions.
The Treaty of Amsterdam (1957) made Brusses the official host of two of the major political institutions of the EU: The European Commision and The Council of the European Union.
Although the EU has no formal Capital, Brussels serves as the informal Capital of the European Union.
THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL
The European Council consists of the Heads of State or Government from each member nation or state in the European Union. The European Council meets at least 4 times a year, though in times of emergency or crisis the Council can meet as many as 6 or 7 times a year. While the Council is made up of the Heads of State or Government, the Council does not meet to represent their individual government or nation. The job of the Council is to represent and maintain the best interests of a united Europe.
