LUXEMBOURG AND THE EU
Luxembourg is one of the founding members of the European Union, which was established in its original form (European Economic Community) in 1952.
Luxembourg is a city which is inherently ‘European’. Its population of 0.5million has a huge number of Europeans of other nationalities residing there. Three languages are officially used in Luxembourg: Luxembourgish, French, German.
Luxembourg is the site of many European institutions, being considered to be the the judiciary and financial capital of Europe.
THE COURT OF JUSTICE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION
The Court of Justice of the European Union is one of the highest courts in the EU. The European Union comprises of three different courts: The Court of Justice which is at the forefront of the Court structure and is assisted by the both the General Court and the Civil Service tribunal.
The Court of Justice rules on matters solely concerning European Union Law, this includes but is not limited to areas such as transport, social policy, environment, discrimination and free movement. The Court of Justice interprets European Union law and rules on the legality of actions by European Union Institutions
