STRASBOURG AND THE EU
Strasbourg is the official seat of the European Parliament. It was confirmed as the official headquarters for the Parliament in 1992.
Strasbourg is the location for many important European institutions and it has become known as the legislative and democratic capital of the European Union.
Strasbourg is located close to the border with Germany. The Alsace region is historically German-speaking, which explains the cities Germanic name.
THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
The European Parliament is the only directly elected European Union body. It is one of the largest democratic assemblies in the world. Its 766 members represent approximately 500 million European citizens. The Parliament acts as a co-legislator for nearly all EU law. It is the only legislative chamber in the world which produces bing legislation for 28 countries and nations.
